Facebook (FB) Gets Its First Woman Director

Social networking giant Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) on Monday announced that its current chief operating officer (COO) Sheryl Sandberg has joined the company's all-male board of directors.
The move may  tone down some  criticism about Facebook, which has often found itself in line of fire for stifling diversity.

Sandberg joined Facebook in 2008 and has been one of its most powerful executives. Prior to Facebook, Sandberg was Vice President of Global Online Sales and Operations at Google (NASDAQ: GOOG). She also was involved in launching Google's philanthropic arm Google.org.

Prior to Google, Sandberg served as chief of staff for the United States Department of the Treasur. In 2012, she was named in Time 100, an annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world assembled by the magazine. She currently sits on the boards of The Walt Disney Company (NYSE :DIS ), Women for Women International and several other nonprofit organizations.
